When Jane Doe first arrived at Home Start in December 2022, she was in crisis. A survivor of domestic violence, she had found the courage to seek help and was placed in our Bridge Housing program for immediate safety and support.
But safety can be fleeting when you’re trying to escape abuse. Just weeks later, Jane’s abuser discovered her new address after stealing her purse from her workplace, putting her in danger once again. Our Domestic Violence Services team quickly acted, relocating her into our secure DV Transitional Housing program in early 2023. It was there, over the next 11 months, that Jane began to rebuild her life.
She met weekly with her case manager and began working with one of Home Start’s in-house therapists. Through consistency, support, and her own remarkable strength, Jane began healing from the trauma of her past. Her PTSD symptoms became more manageable, and she slowly started to rediscover her sense of agency.
On January 5, 2024, Jane achieved a major milestone: she moved into her own apartment through our Rapid Rehousing program. She is now working and attending school full-time, pursuing her dream of becoming a counselor so she can help others who have experienced similar pain.
Jane’s journey is one of courage, transformation, and hope. At Home Start, we are honored to walk alongside clients like her, providing trauma-informed care and housing services that empower survivors to reclaim their futures.
